An Exclusive Destination Wedding at the Luxurious Tropical Marimurtra Botanical Garden in Costa Brava, Spain.

I don’t even know where to begin when it comes to Kym and Phil’s incredible destination wedding in Blanes, Spain ( a paradise only 40 minutes away from Barcelona). There’s just so much to say, and even more stunning photos to share — it’s hard to choose which moments to highlight! But let me take you through their story, the magical day, and how I ended up travelling from Australia to Europe to capture it all. 

Back in April 2023, I was capturing the magic of Denise and Luis’ wedding—another unforgettable day in my career as a photographer. Right after sharing some beautiful pictures with Denise, Kym approached me with that unmistakable sparkle in her eyes. She told me she was getting married the next year to Phil, the bride's brother, in Spain. Then she asked, “Do you travel?” I felt like a girlfriend being proposed by her boyfriend! 

My heart skipped a beat. Without a second thought, I said, “OMG yes, I Do, of course!” I could hardly believe it. It felt like fate: my dream of starting a European wedding season was finally coming true, and my international career was taking flight and my bags were already packaged!

I know she could have had any amazing photographer from Europe, but there is this fun and easy connection between Scottish and Brazilian people, I don’t know how to explain if it’s the shared sense of humour, but something that just clicks. 

I don’t need to say how much we had fun from the very beginning to the end, you will see it in every shot, the joy and laughter were endless.

Kym and Phil's Story

The song Kym walked down the aisle to was one she and Phil first heard after a few drinks in a taxi in Ibiza. At that time, they weren’t even engaged but decided it would be their wedding song someday—and it was! Their story began on Bumble, where Kym broke the ice with a funny GIF, and Phil replied with his own humor. Despite a nine-year age gap, they hit it off immediately. Their first date was during COVID, where Phil arranged a pub crawl, and after just an hour, Kym’s straightforwardness left Phil knowing she was “the one.”

Fast forward to December 2022, when Phil proposed during a private beach dinner in Koh Samui, Thailand. After a few failed attempts to get Kym to stand for a photo, he finally popped the question while sitting—ring box dropping mishaps and all! Kym said yes, because Phil makes her laugh every day and has the kindest heart she knows. Phil, in turn, admires Kym’s strength, positivity, and beauty, calling her his best friend. Their love is imperfectly perfect, filled with laughter, small quirks, and the kind of understanding that makes life’s little moments so special.

Their wedding was a true reflection of their unique personalities and love for nature. With 80 of their closest family and friends, they created a celebration that felt intimate, exclusive yet stylish, set in the heart of the incredible Marimurtra Botanical Garden in Blanes, Spain. The lush gardens, vibrant greenery, and Mediterranean views made for the perfect backdrop to celebrate a love that’s as timeless as the surroundings.

The Bride

Kym is the epitome of a dream bride. She’s the type who knows exactly what she wants, and for a photographer, there’s nothing more exciting than capturing a bride who is confident in her choices and determined to make her day perfect. She has an effortless ability to elevate every detail, ensuring everything is flawless. But on the day itself, she exudes calm, joy, and a serene sense of presence.

She walked into her wedding day like a true Hollywood diva from the golden era, embodying timeless elegance and confidence. Her aura lit up the room, turning heads and making every moment feel like a scene from a classic movie.

The Groom

Phil is the definition of a true gentleman—charming, laid-back, and effortlessly stylish. He’s the kind of groom who humbly claims he’s “not photogenic,” which is always my favourite thing to hear. Because when these grooms see their photos later, they’re often convinced it was all my magic. But honestly, how could anyone not look incredible when they’re as naturally elegant as Phil?

Dressed in a creamy linen suit, sans tie, Phil embodied the relaxed, sophisticated style that perfectly matched the Spanish summer vibe. His look was polished yet easygoing, a reflection of his fun and kind nature. From the way he smiled at Kym during the ceremony to his infectious laughter throughout the day, Phil’s presence brought warmth and authenticity to every shot.

The Magic of Marimurtra: Where Love Meets Nature

Marimurtra, where Kym and Phil said their “I do’s,” is one of the most breathtaking spots I’ve ever photographed. Perched on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean, it’s filled with exotic plants, historic architecture, and dreamy coastal views. As they exchanged vows beneath the iconic dome, with the sound of the waves in the distance, the atmosphere was nothing short of magical.

Their wedding was effortlessly stylish with a tropical vibe, and every detail was thoughtfully curated by an incredible team of vendors. What about we talk about the dream team behind this stunning celebration?

The dream team

• Getting ready location: the Atzavara Hotel & Spa A luxurious 5-star hotel was the perfect retreat for everyone during their destination wedding at Costa Brava.

• Wedding Venue: Marimurtra Botanical Garden. The place where love and nature became one. Situated in Blanes, Costa Brava 40-minute drive from Barcelona, spain.

• Dress Designer: Carolyn Baxter from the UK is the magic hand behind the dreamy wedding gown design, with flowy gofeathers! Kym looked like a true goddess. Overdelivering: she framed the original dress sketch as a meaningful gift.

• Groom’s attire: Mr guild was the suit chosen by the groom Phil. embodied cool elegance in a creamy linen summer suit keeping it charming without a tie.

• Celebrant: Toby Harper brought warmth and humour, making the ceremony fun and heartfelt.

• Wedding Planner: Silvia from the Marimurtra Botanical Garden event department Silvia and Camila were The planners behind the scenes, crafting the perfect ambience and making sure everything was running perfectly.

• Florist: Mireia Font aguera from la floreria, created the most stunning floral arrangements, bringing the tropical vibe to life in a classic off-white pallet

The Ceremony

Before Kym made her grand entrance, guests were welcomed with refreshing drinks al fresco (though not as cool as one might hope with the soaring 38-degree temperature!). It was a warm Spanish summer day, the guest were fanning their fans around. Positioned at the top of the hill, the guests were able to soak in the magnificent views of the Marimurtra Botanical Garden while sipping on their beverages. This spot, with its panoramic overlook of the Linnaeus Pavilion, was the perfect place to welcome everyone and set the tone for what would be an unforgettable celebration.

The wedding ceremony began at Goethe Square, a picturesque space that marks the entrance to the Epicurus Stairway. It was here that Kym started her awe-inspiring walk down to meet Phil, with the beauty of the garden embracing her every step. As she glided down the stairs, it was clear that this moment was one she had envisioned for so long—a moment where dreams and reality merged.

The ceremony ended beautifully with classic petals gently floating around, followed by a romantic kiss bathed in perfect sunshine backlight.

The Couple Portrait Session

The couple’s portrait session began at the Linnaeus Pavilion, where the romantic architecture and panoramic views were bathed in a magical sunset glow. We then moved to the base of the grand Epicurus Stairway, capturing them against the garden’s lush greenery, which beautifully contrasted with their sophisticated style.

These classic shots, framed by the vibrant Marimurtra Garden, looked like they were straight out of a romance novel. As we made our way back to the gathering area, we paused every few meters to capture the Mediterranean Sea peeking through the foliage. It’s truly one of the most beautiful spots on the Costa Brava, adding an extra touch of enchantment to every shot.

Before the ceremony, guests enjoyed appetizers on a natural balcony overlooking the cliffs, shaded by century-old trees. There was live cooking, Spanish delicacies, refreshing drinks, and a wonderful mix of hugs, kisses, and laughter—setting the perfect tone for the reception ahead.

The Reception

As the evening progressed, we moved into the reception tent nestled in the lush forest, creating the atmosphere of a secret garden party. It was intimate, enchanting, and couldn’t have felt more exclusive. 

A round of emotional and beautiful speeches, warm hugs and loud laughs. A delicious dinner with loved ones!

The Champagne Tower and the Dance Floor

If you thought that was the end… well, let me tell you, Kym and Phil took things to a whole new level. They kicked off the evening festivities with an epic champagne tower at dusk, framed by the Mediterranean Sea in the background.

After a few bubbly sips set the tipsy vibe, it was time for their first dance, followed by an electrifying performance by Gigi McFarlane & Fire Sax that set the dance floor on fire. What a show! I could have danced until 6 a.m., and I felt so honoured to be invited to join in the fun.

I always strive to create a special bond with my clients, but Kym and Phil truly made me feel like a rock star, seemed like I was celebrating with my best friends. The warmth and connection we shared were reflected beautifully in their feedback. Take a look:

Kym and Phil’s wedding was the perfect start to my European wedding season, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to capture their day. Their love, their story, and their celebration were a reminder of why I do what I do—documenting love in all its forms, in all its beautiful locations.

As I look forward to the next wedding season, I’m beyond excited, I have some weddings booking already in Spain, Germany and Italy. Europe is full of beautiful places, incredible couples, and stories waiting to be told.
